"The heavens declare of the glory of God;
And their expanse....
Day unto day uttereth speech,
and night unto night sheweth
knowledge.
There is no speech or language where their voice is not
heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the
world.
Psalms
19:1-4
T his past Sunday we pursued furthered our
study of Hearing God. Pastor Conrad shared from Larry
Krieder's book by the same title. We explored how God speaks through
common sense and everyday things. We discovered how He speaks
through the conviction of the Holy Spirit and Worship. We also discovered
how He speaks to us through human authority and
creation.
The
one area that was a challenge to most is how God speaks
through
human authorities:
government, parents, bosses and pastors! If we are always
questioning human authorities whose voices we can hear in our ears, then
we will most probably have difficulty in hearing what God is saying to our
spirits. This is not to say that these authorities are always perfect
messengers of God's word! It has to do with our attitude.
All
authority ultimately comes from God. We are therefore instructed to
approach human authorities in a willing spirit of submission and
obedience (Romans 13:1-2). As we do, we will be in a better position to
hear from God when those authorities are not in submission
to God's higher authority. In those cases, our prayer should always
be the restoration of human authority back
to a proper re-submission to God's authority. Such an
attitude will help to keep us responsive to God's voice.
Hearing God through the immensity and
intricacies of the universe declared in the above scripture helps to lift
our hearts above the mundane struggles of daily existence. Through
the continual speech of stars and galaxies, our God is calling us to
live a life of wonder and faith. His glory in the heavenly
bodies is revealing to us that He is more than able to
keep
our lives in alignment with His unfolding plan of
redemption on earth. The mysteries of His order at the subatomic
level tells us that He is intimately and mysteriously involved
with the smallest details of our lives.
Praise God that He is speaking to us through in so many different
ways so persistently!
